Around 1500 animals - 140 animal species - live on the 14-hectare zoo grounds in spacious, near-natural open spaces. Zoo visitors experience unique insights into the animal worlds of lion, jaguar, bear and Co.!

The Salzburg Zoo sees it as its trademark to show numerous native and exotic animal species in their natural habitat. A special concern of the zoological garden is to harmoniously combine the beauty of the given landscape in Hellbrunn with the accustomed living environment of the animals. In this way, specific landscape spaces have been and are being created that allow visitors large and small to experience a balanced relationship between flora and fauna. Zoo habitats" have been created from materials which are as natural as possible and which meet the needs of the animals and also make it possible to observe related animal communities.

In the "African savannah", for example, white rhinos, antelopes and guinea fowls cavort, other areas show American fauna or animals in the Eurasian habitat (bears and wolverines, prarie dogs, and otters). Not only children will learn a lot of new and interesting things during a visit to Hellbrunn, both about well known animals of the home country and about creatures of other continents. Take your time to wander through the extensive zoo landscape and let the life of often distant worlds have an effect on you!
