Welcome to Lauscha!

Lauscha - the glassblowing town in the Thuringian Forest
Amidst the mountains of the “Schiefergebirge”, in the southern part of the Thuringian Forest, between rolling hills and vast forests, lie the picturesque towns of Lauscha and Ernstthal. Founded in 1597 with the establishment of a village glassworks, Lauscha has been considered the "birthplace" of Christmas tree decorations made of glass since 1847 and is still the centre of the art glassblowing trade in Germany.
The "production of mouth-blown glass Lauscha Christmas tree decorations" was included in the Federal Register of Intangible Cultural Heritage by the Conference of the Ministers of Education and Cultural Affairs of the Federal states in March 2021.
A special attraction in the town is the Museum of Glass Art. There, visitors are given insights into the local glass industry, its history and the life and work of Lauscha's glass artists, past and present.
Hiking enthusiasts can enjoy the surroundings of Lauscha. The Rennsteig leads directly through the village of Ernstthal. Hiking and biking trails through the beautiful forests with hilly plateaus and mountain peaks over 800 m offer pure hiking pleasure. Thanks to their favourable location, our villages are ideal for your hiking holiday.
But Lauscha is more than glass and landscape. Recreational fun is also well catered for here. The Outdoor pool area in “Steinachgrund” offers the whole family bathing fun in summer, and in Ernstthal on the "Pappenheimer Berg" one of the most beautiful and longest summer toboggan runs with a 110 m difference in altitude awaits you. In winter, the toboggan run is transformed into a modern ski lift with floodlights.
The Marktiegel ski jump and the large “Reinhard Heß-Schanze” are well-known among winter sports enthusiasts, and brave ons can try out their jumping talent in summer and winter with a day or weekend course "Ski Jumping for Everyone".
A colourful programme of events runs throughout the year and invites you to experience genuine Thuringian hospitality and culture. Highlights include the “Mellichstöckdooch”/Dandelion-Day and the “Schützenfest” in May, the “Jägerfest” in June, the “Mondstürerfest” in July, the “Köppleinkirmes” in August, the “Lauscha Kugelmarkt” on the first and second weekends of Advent and much more.
Whatever the season, let yourself be inspired by the landscape and enchanted by the colourful world of glass. Many sights to the right and left of the Rennsteig can be visited from Lauscha.
We look forward to your visit.
