Not far from the district capital Murau, on the southern edge of the Niedere Tauern, in the middle of the beautiful Ranten valley, you will find the municipality of Ranten with the villages of Ranten (1,100 inhabitants) and Rinegg.

Ranten is the birthplace of Martin Zeiller (1589 - 1661), who can be called one of the first travel journalists in the world. He wrote the first travel guide in German (Fidus Achates) and in his honor the people of Ranten built the Martin Zeiller Garden, which can be admired in the village square.

Long walks along the Rantenbach, hiking through deep green forests, to crystal clear mountain lakes and mountain peaks, horseback riding vacations in the middle of green meadows, fishing at the Rottenmanner pond, biking and much more. - this is how to enjoy a vacation in the Rantental.

Ranten is connected with the district capital Murau by the cycle path R63. Ranten is also one of the few places in the district that has an active shooting guard.

In honor of St. Bartholomew, the Rantner celebrate their church festival at the end of August with Prangschützen, salutes of honor, flag-waving and lots of music.

TIP: "Forest, water, GIPFEL". - A enjoyment hike in Ranten.
With love and expertise DI Reinhold Lick and his team have labeled the circular hiking trail, that the hiker gets enough information and orientation. The circular hiking trail leads from the village square of Ranten via the Kalvarienberg Chapel to the Trattenkogel and via the Sophie Hut back to Ranten.
The brochure for the hike is available at the municipal office in Ranten or at the information office in Murau.
