Seckau

The municipality of Seckau belongs to the Spielberg tourist region.

Nestling in the foothills of the Niedere Tauern is the market town of Seckau with its well-known Benedictine abbey on a high plateau above the Mur valley. The monastery was founded as early as 1140 as an Augustinian choir monastery. In the Middle Ages, not only did the bishop of the diocese of Seckau have his seat here, but the canons were also known for their book paintings, which were made in the writing workshops at that time. Again and again we become aware of the radiance of the place "Seckau". From 21 to 23 August 1660, Emperor Leopold I visited Seckau and granted it market rights at that time.

Apart from the Hochalm church, popular destinations include the "Seckauer Zinken" (2397m) as the local mountain and particularly interesting for tourers in winter, as well as the "Turm im Gebirge" (tower in the mountains) on the Tremmelberg. This lookout post was modelled on the towers of the Seckau Basilica, where an impressive view of the entire Aichfeld awaits you. The Alpine Trail is identical to the Long Distance Trail 02 and the Salvation Trail is a theme trail that leads to the Calvary Church on Tremmelberg.

But also numerous circular trails invite you to nice walks through the village and the surrounding forests.
